Impact Studies of the Effect of Large-scale Wind Integration in the Mexican Power Grid

摘要
In this paper, a frequency control strategy that overcomes some of the problems associated with the integration of large wind farms into the Mexican Interconnected System (MIS) is presented. In recent years, several wind farms have been installed in the MIS, especially in the southeastern network of the system. Installed wind energy capacity is around 2.2 GW, representing about 3.5 % of the total installed electric power in the grid. Increase of this kind of renewable generation is expected to have a strong effect on the dynamic performance at the MIS, especially when the penetration level of wind farms will be an important contribution of total generation. Transient stability studies conducted on a 3500-bus system of the Mexican grid shows that the developed procedures can greatly improve system frequency performance of the entire Mexican interconnected system.
