摘要
This letter presents the design of a switchable nearfield (NF) and far-field (FF) reader antenna for ultra-high-frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) applications. Current distribution of an antenna array comprising four dipoles can be switched via reconfigurable feeding network to help strengthen the intensity of a magnetic field in an NF zone and improve the FF gain. Reconfigurable feeding network is realized by the switching state of PIN diodes. Simulated results show the proposed antenna works at USA RFID band (902-928 MHz). It can generate a strong and uniform magnetic field in a 240 x 240 mm(2) NF region and provide 7 dBic FF gain. The prototype was fabricated and tested. Measured results prove the antenna possesses good performance in both NF and FF regions.
