AN EMPIRICAL VIEW ON LABOUR PRODUCTIVITY AT FACULTIES OF ECONOMICS AT THE PUBLIC HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

The paper focuses on the relations between labour productivity of academic staff (both from educational and research points of view) and labour costs at economic faculties of higher education institutions in the Czech Republic in the period between 2006 and 2010. Firstly, we analyze the impact of labour productivity on the level of average wages of academic staff in 2010. As two parts of labour productivity we consider the total number of students adjusted by the coefficient of economical difficulty per academic staff and the total number of publication points ("RIV points") per academic staff. The regression model explains 37.8 % of variance in average wages among faculties. In comparison with similar model for the HEIs level, the model for faculties explains less part of variance (37.8 % in contrary to 66.4 %). In the second part, we compare the changes between labour productivity measured by the adjusted number of students in the period 2006 - 2010 and the changes between average wages adjusted of average inflation rate. At almost all faculties there is a positive difference between the change in labour productivity and change in average real labour costs but there are huge differences between individual faculties.
