A rate control algorithm for real time video over the Internet

摘要
As a new type of transmission channel, the Internet has shown great success and tremendous potential. With the rapid growth of bandwidth and computer power, real-time video transmission over the Internet has recently seen a lot of interest, both from academia and industry. In this paper, we first discuss recent efforts in the field of real-time video over the Internet, including the modified transport protocol, rate control and error control mechanism. We then present a rate control algorithm, using Hidden Markov Model (HMM) of the channel and optimal stochastic control algorithm, so that to provide optimal tradeoffs between real-time requirement and visual quality of the transmitted video.
