摘要
Energy efficiency has recently become a major issue in large data centers. Virtual machine placement (VMP) problem plays an important role in virtualized datacenters. Virtual machine (VM) migration with efficient placement schemes enables effective physical machines (PMs) consolidation to promote the utilization level of servers. Low utilization of physical server is the main reason result to the energy inefficiency. Aimed to promote the utilization of servers, VM migration technology is used to realize the server consolidation and minimize the lower utilized servers and switch idle servers to energy saving mode. Secondly, a novel and effective VM allocation policy based on resource-aware utility model is proposed to improve the consolidation efficiency. Finally, a resource manage prototype framework is setup, and CloudSim is chosen as the testbed to evaluate the policy's performance with the real workload data collected from the PlanetLab project. Experiments results validated our proposed policy effectiveness on substantial energy savings.
