Some optimization criteria for biological systems in linear irreversible thermodynamics

In the present work, some optimum working regimes for linear energy converters are analyzed from a thermodynamical point of view. The regimes studied are minimum entropy production, maximum power output and another one which represents a good compromise between high power output and low entropy production. The analysis is made within the domain of linear irreversible thermodynamics. Finally, the possibility that some biological systems satisfy these criteria is discussed.
