摘要：
Child abuse and neglect are common presenting problems in the hospital setting. In this article I define the scope of child maltreatment, focusing on the medical evaluation of physical and emotional abuse, and I review issues I:elated to reporting suspected cases of child abuse. Challenges in the assessment and management of such cases and future directions are also discussed.
