ACADEMIC STRESS AND HEALTH OUTCOMES: EVIDENCE FROM UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

This study surveyed students at university and college in Malaysia to determine the relationships between perceived stressors and health outcomes. Gender differences in stress and outcomes were also explored. Results revealed that pressures, frustrations, conflicts and changes are the four major factors that contribute to high level of undergraduates' academic stress. Academic stress tends to have a greater impact on males than on females. Implications of the findings and recommendations are put forward for the students, authorities and faculty members to take precautionary procedures against the severity of academic stress. Finally, the limitations of the study and suggestions for future research are discussed.
