The thermodynamic properties of solid solutions of tin in antimony

The thermodynamic properties of solid solutions of tin in antimony were studied at 590-850 K by the electromotive force (EMF) method with a molten salt electrolyte. Electrochemical cells of the type (-) Sn \ LiCl + RbCl + SnCl2\ Sn1-xSbx (+) were used. The obtained EMF values allowed us to determine the relative chemical potential of tin in the samples. The chemical potential values were approximated by the Redlich-Kister series. The integral Gibbs energy of formation of the alloys under consideration was calculated as a function of composition and temperature. The stability parameter of tin in the rhombohedral structure with respect to the body-centered tetragonal phase was calculated; the obtained value differed from that reported in the literature. The position of the solidus line of solid solutions was determined.
