Structural and magnetic properties of Sm Fe thin films

摘要
Thin films of quartz/Sm(250 Angstrom)/Fe(150 Angstrom) have been studied by grazing incidence Xray diffraction, Atomic Force Microscopy and longitudinal magneto-optic Kerr effect between 78 K and room temperature. Both the Sm- and Fe-layers exhibit growth in a preferential direction and a texture effect was observed. The Fe-layer is composed of small elongated grains, 60nm long and 20nm wide. These grains are monodomains and produce a uniaxial in-plane magnetic anisotropy in the film. The Sm-layer exhibits magnetic order at 140 K acid aligns antiparallel to the Fe-layer.
