摘要
On October, 23rd2008 the European Union approved the "Directive of the European parliament and the council on the assessment and management of flood risk" (2007/60/EC). Objective of this directive is to establish a framework for assessment and management of flood risk for coastal areas. Methods for the preparation of flood hazard maps, flood risk maps and flood risk management plans are not directly transferable on coastal areas. Therefore it is necessary to develop new assessment methods which are adjusted to coastal areas. The joint KFKI research project "HoRisk - Flood Risk Management in Coastal Areas" was inspired by this directive. This research project consists of different work packages of which this paper will describe the work package "Failure and Flooding" in more detail.
