A pressure partition model for estimating tool efficiency during friction stir welding

摘要
This paper presents a partition model to predict the relationship between Friction Stir Welding (FSW) tool efficiency and extrusion pressures on the leading and trailing sides of the tool. The model is derived using a Schiel type analysis characteristic of fractional solidification of alloys and predicts a buildup in extrusion pressure on the trailing side of the FSW tool. Derivations establish relationship between extrusion pressures, the amount of material stir welded and the tool efficiency.
