B→K(*)(K)over-bar(*) decays:: a new method for measuring the CP phase α

We present a new method far measuring the CP phase alpha. It requires the measurement of the pure penguin decays B-d(0)(t) --> K-(*)(K) over bar ((*)) and B-s(0) --> K-(*)(K) over bar ((*)). The method is quite clean: we estimate the theoretical uncertainty to be at most 5%. By applying the method to several K-(*)(K) over bar ((*)) final states, a can be extracted with a fourfold ambiguity. An additional assumption reduces this ambiguity to twofold: {alpha, alpha + pi}. Since no pi(0) detection is needed, this method can be used at hadron colliders. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
