Boiling and condensation heat transfer coefficients in a plate heat exchanger

In the rapidly expanding industries of refrigeration and air conditioning there is a growing demand for smaller components, so plate heat exchangers are increasingly employed as condensers and evaporators. In order to satisfy specific duties it is necessary to predict heat transfer coefficients during these processes and, as each exchanger design is unique, experimental data is required. The paper describes tests and the processing of data to obtain correlations for boiling and condensation in a particular brazed plate heat exchanger manufactured by E J Bowman (Birmingham) Ltd.
