Solving the Problem of Economic Load Dispatch for a Small Scale Power System Using a Novel Hybrid PSO-GSA Algorithm

摘要
This paper discusses a convex Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem for 3-Generator 5-Bus system subjected to equality and inequality constraints. The solution to this problem is found by modelling Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), and hybrid of Particle Swarm Optimization and Gravitational Search Algorithm (in short hybrid PSO-GSA) discretely in MATLAB. The core idea behind the combination of PSO with GSA is to develop an algorithm which utilizes the local search ability of GSA and global search ability of PSO simultaneously, thus making the algorithm quick and robust in nature. Further, the simulation results are compared based on total minimized fuel cost and the time taken by the algorithm to converge towards the solution. The results however affirm that hybrid PSO-GSA gives robust and effective solution to ELD problem with higher quality.
