Using a Wearable Device for an Android-based Weight Management System

摘要
The Philippines is combating obesity since the population of overweight or obese Filipinos continue to rise along with the ballooning population of the country. There are 18 million Filipinos, 17% of the Philippine population in 2017, who were classified as obese and overweight. Obesity is an epidemic and a chronic disease which is a global health concern. This paper concentrates on the design of Android-based mobile application, connected to a wearable device, to monitor the increasing problem caused by obesity or on the edge to become one. By gathering critical parameters such as calorie intake, physical activity, sleep level, and heart rate of an individual, a health practitioner can analyze their activities to help them become a healthier person. Through this new innovative clinical decision support system, information that will be gathered by the wearable device can be extracted to provide health analysis of their activities aligned with the aforementioned critical parameters. This research in the field of Internet-of-Things (IoT) provides a revolutionary way of extracting information from target users' activities to the computers of health practitioners as a technique to analyze current and historical activity data for a manageable health style in avoiding obesity.
