Endogenous Cushing's syndromes. Once Cushing's syndrome has been clinically confirmed, the measurement of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) levels enables the aetiology to be determined. ACTH-dependent forms are due primarily to Cushing's disease, paraneoplastic syndromes, uncommon, are associated with numerous tumours, mainly bronchial, and ACTH-independent forms, rare, with malignant or benign tumours.
