High angular resolution astronomy on a shoestring

摘要
The forthcoming millennium promises to deliver a new suite of optical and near-infrared interferometric telescopes with capabilities well beyond those of existing arrays. In this paper I outline one possibility for a successor to this first generation of instruments. By designing an array round a specific set of modest, yet challenging, astrophysical programmes it should be possible to combine a wide scientific capability with relatively low capital cost.
