SPACES OF (POPULAR) CULTURE AND MEDIA

The range of the fantasy genre is defined between the mode of "marvelous" and "uncanny". The "fantasy culture" is understood as a system of encoding and decoding, and the research activity as an active participation in this process. Several ways of interpretations are illustrated using examples from the current "fantasy culture". These interpretations can be perceived as various possibilities of denaturalization and detotalization. Ambiguous function of fantasy in the public space is discussed. The perspective of research as a reflection of the subversive potential contained in the dominant code of "fantasy culture" is proposed.
