Mirroring empathy and reconstructive empathy

摘要：
Given the general confusion surrounding the notion of empathy, it is useful to distinguish between two different types of empathy, Mirroring empathy and reconstructive empathy. Both kinds of empathy involve emotional sharing. But they are generated by different mechanisms. Mirroring empathy is induced by the mere observation of emotional cues, whereas reconstructive empathy is induced by the simulation of the emotional situation of other. Here I analyze each notion of empathy in more detail.
