摘要
This paper will examine the need for establishing Labanotation literacy as an integral part of dance education. The interpretation of literacy will include the broader scope of intelligence and creativity produced by the ability to read and write dance notation. I will discuss the viability of using the Language of Dance method for teaching Motif Writing as the initial step in creating this literacy. Curriculum at Southern Methodist University in both Labanotation and composition will be used to illustrate this point.
