The effects of the 1995 great Hanshin earthquake on the plant operation of leaping chemical companies in Hanshin (Osaka/Kobe) region

The great earthquake that assailed the Hanshin (Osaka/Kobe) region at 5:46am on January 17, 1995 killed more than 5,000 people and caused such major disasters as the destruction of various buildings. Chemical plants within the region also incurred various types of damage. The Technical Committee of Plant Operation Engineering focused on operating sites and conducted a survey to learn the nature of the effects incurred and to examine how operation can be improved in the future.
