In accordance with essence of engineering education and historical situation of engineering colleges in western region, it is necessary that cultivation of application-oriented talents is the goal of development of higher engineering education. cultivation system for applied ability was studied which set cultivation of application-oriented talents for modern engineering as whole goal, college-enterprise cooperation as approach, construction of double-certificated teachers as key link, enhancement of practical teaching as basis, cultivation of innovation ability as centre. Cultivation measure and scheme for applied ability of engineering specialties was put forward pertinently, and further thought for research is pointed out.
