SDDP: Scalable Distributed Diagnosis Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

This paper proposes a distributed solution for fault diagnosis in wireless sensor networks (WSN). Fault diagnosis is achieved by comparing the heartbeat sequence number generated by neighbouring nodes and dissemination of decision made at each node. The proposed protocol considers channel error where the channel is modelled as two state Markov model. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that both message and time complexity of proposed protocol is O(n) for an n-node WSN. This work investigates the energy consumed in diagnosing a fault event. The per-node energy overhead is substantially reduced and becomes scalable.
