Cytological study of homokaryotic and heterokaryotic strains of Agaricus bisporus (J. Lange) Imbach

A cytological study of homokaryotic and heterokaryotic strains of the cultivated disporous champignon was carried out by methods of light and electron microscopy. It was shown that homokaryotic strains exhibited a higher frequency of branching and a larger bifurcation angle than heterokaryotic strains. Homoclones also had thicker hyphae and cell walls than heteroclones. The differences revealed may be used to screen for champignon heteroclones. Electron-microscopic study of different champignon strains revealed similarity of the internal structure of their cells and septa with that of other basidiomycetes.
