Dissociation of carbonate ions in molten chlorides of alkali metals

摘要
The dissociation constants for carbonate ions in molten KCI (pK = 3.2 at 800degreesC), KCl-NaCl (pK = 5.1 at 700degreesC and pK = 3.6 at 800degreesC), and CsCl-KCl-NaCl (pK = 4.12 at 600degreesC, 3.31 at 700degreesC, and 2.87 at 800degreesC) were determined potentiometrically. It was shown that, in the absence Of CO2 over the melt, CO32- did not completely dissociate with the formation of O2-. It was established that the variation in the dissociation constants of the carbonate in these melts is in accordance with the pressures of dissociation of the corresponding carbonates of alkali metals.
