Rotatory intra-articular dislocation of the patella in two dogs

Rotatory intra-articular dislocation of the patella is an unusual condition, apparently traumatic in origin, that affects young dogs. In rotatory intra-articular dislocations, the proximal and middle portions of the patella become traumatically separated from the parapatellar fibrocartilage and the basis patellae rotates caudodistally within the joint. As the basis patellae rotates distally, it can become lodged in the intercondyloid fossa of the femur, necessitating open reduction.
