The conformation of the country was one of the main tasks undertaken by the Chilean state after independence. In this context that the northward expansion that led to the War of the Pacific and Indian lands south of the Bio Bio, which involved a major military deployment, which was joined by other devices in the strategy of occupying, controlling and transform the space and those who inhabited it. Thus, dismantle the old Mapuche territory, Araucania and rearticularlo a redesigned country, southern Chile, was a long and complex process undertaken by the State.
