Interacting boson model from microscopic theory

We describe a way of determining the Hamiltonian of the interacting boson model (IBM) based on microscopic fermion calculation. By mapping potential energy surface for quadrupole deformation obtained from self-consistent mean-field method with a microscopic energy density functional (EDF) onto the corresponding one in the boson coherent state, energy spectra and transition rates are calculated. As a given EDF provides an accurate global description of nuclear bulk properties of almost all nuclei, IBM Hamiltonian is determined for general cases of quadrupole collective dynamics: spherical vibrational, deformed rotational states and those in between (transitional nuclei). Some outcomes resulting from this procedure: IBM description of rotational moment of inertia and robust regularity in gamma-soft nuclei, are discussed.
