摘要
The present study will examine the relationship between religiosity and suicide it is hypothesize that a) the level of suicidal and the level of religiosity would not be dependent b) there would be high level of religiosity in female as compare to male, c) there would be difference in the level of religiosity and suicidal attempts in adolescence and adults. In order to test these hypotheses a sample of 100 depressed patients (32 suicidal attempted patients and 68 suicidal ideation patients) were selected from respected hospitals of Karachi including PNS Shifa, Jinnah Post Medical College and Civil Hospital. The age of patients ranges from 16 to 40 years with at least secondary school education. The Beck Depression Inventory (Aron Beck), the Age-Universal I-E scale (Gorsuch & Venable, Urdu translation, and Suicidal Probability Scale were administered on the patients. Chi-Square and t-test was applied for the statistical analysis of the data using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS 12 version). The results indicated religiosity and suicide are dependent (chi-square=69.24, table value=3.84), there were significant differences between the level of religiosity in female as compare to male (t=2.557, p=<0.05) and there were no significant differences in the level of religiosity and suicidal attempts in adolescence and adults (t=1.676,p=>0.05).
