A Novel Approach for Shared Resource Allocation with Wireless Network Virtualization

Wireless virtualization is an emerging approach to enhance the spectrum utilization by sharing wireless resources such as RF spectrum and wireless infrastructures of different networks through slicing. In this paper, we investigate RF spectrum sharing for virtual wireless networks where wireless resources for virtual networks shrink and grow based on their availability and the demands from the users. Traditional wireless network providers divide and reconfigure their RF bands to sublease to mobile virtual network operators based on service level agreements while keeping enough RF bands to their own users. We evaluate the performance of the proposed approach using percentage of RF band subleasing, outage probability and rate as metrics with the help of numerical results obtained from simulations. Note that the wireless resources are wasted if they not leased to virtual wireless network operators when they are not utilized by the owners.
