Moderatus of Gades, a Neopythagorean of the late first century AD, understands the hypothesis of Plato's Parmenides as a metaphysics proportion, by transmuting each hypothesis into approximately thesame eight that Amelius, a disciple of Plotinus in Rome, identified inthe third century AD. In this paper we analyze the testimoniesabout life and chronology of Moderatus and his thoughts, according to the following scales: a. Porphyry: on the Pythagorean compendium, b. Stobaeus: on the number c. Simplicius: on matter, d. Syrianus: on the difference of the one and the monad, and e. Proclus: on harmony.
