Progressive ZP-OFDM for Image Transmission over Underwater Time-Dispersive Fading Channels

This In this paper, a progressive zero padding (PZP) time reversal orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (TR-OFDM) scheme is proposed for the transmission of progressively organized image data blocks for time-dispersive fading channels with a short guard interval. Such data blocks are usually obtained by Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Tress (SPHIT) coders. The new scheme provides a significant improvement in the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of received images by careful calculation of the zero-padding length according to the significance of data blocks to minimize the total inter-block interference (IBI) noise of the entire image. The proposed method is carefully developed with sufficient justification with its advantages also demonstrated by numerical simulations.
