摘要
This paper addresses the problem of shape optimization in connection with the design of shell structures. The shape optimization of a shell structure, in which a minimum of the structural weight is sought in accordance with the prescribed constraints, is focused on determination of the shell thickness and identification of regions, where the structure has to be additionally reinforced. The applied two-stage design opimization procedure based on the Discretized Optimality Criteria method involves both optimization of the shell thickness and determination of proper location of the reinforcement stiffeners. The results obtained in the first stage of optimization serve to identify regions where stiffeners should be located. The second stage of optimization involves searching for an optimal design solution of the shell structure which has been reinforced by adding stiffeners. To illustrate the usefulness of the proposed technique two numerical examples are discussed. Copyright (C) 1996 Civil-Comp Ltd and Elsevier Science Ltd.
