Making a difference: The community service project management class

This paper describes a DSI Instructional Innovation Award submission for a project management course in which students learn and apply project planning and management skills to a community service effort. The entire class renovates the home of a low income senior citizen in Seattle's predominantly African American Central District. The students are faced with the challenge of structuring, prioritizing, and scheduling a very loosely defined problem, and carrying it forward to completion on a short time horizon.
