Pharmaceutical R&D Project Management under Risk

Market pressure and tough socio-political regulations are among the current factors that are changing the way in which the pharmaceutical business is operated. The pharmaceutical industries are faced with the question of the best use of the limited resources available to obtain the highest possible profit from a potential product portfolio. Pharmaceutical products differ somewhat from other products. In the sense, pharmaceutical R&D project management under risk is crucial for quick responses to changing market trends. For this reason, a great deal of the recent research has focused on the research and development (R&D) projects. This article reviews the current literature on R&D project management under risk for medical and pharmaceutical products. The review discusses some interesting open research questions in this field, and points out new directions for future research.
