Urban Renewal in Different Cultural Contexts

By analyzing some examples, this paper compares the similarities and differences between the renewal of Chinese cities and that of western cities, and reconsiders the disparity in practice caused by their different concepts. It points out the different spatial patterns between Chinese cities and western cities, and decides to apply dissimilar measures in urban renewal. On the other hand, as for the relationship between old and new buildings and that between conservation and development, we should draw lessons from the useful part in the renewal of western cities, and emancipate our mind, and vigorously promote the renewal of Chinese cities in the correct direction.
