Theater and identity: Jordi Casanovas, A Catalan history. (2011), Fatherland (2012) and Vilafranca (2015)

The present article contains the study of Jordi Casanovas' three plays on Catalan identity. The analysis demonstrates how the playwright succeeds in reflecting the complex reality of Catalan identity from a varied perspective both chronologically as well as socially. To achieve this goal, Casanovas creates public, semi-public and private contexts to develop the action, offering an overview which reproduces a changing reality and its constant redefinition. In this way, the playwright transforms a specific and 'local' message into a global and transnational one and invites the audience to reflect on a topic which from particular changes to general.
