Beasts of the Southern Wild: The Ambitious, Beautiful Illusion

This is a film that will pervade my memory because of the director's beautifully unusual imagery but the characters won't survive in my mind. I wish I had experienced the film the way its fans did with tears in my eyes, with joy, with any feeling other than frustration. If only the emotional force behind Beasts had been as overwhelming as its visual and audible power! And yet the film does have value.
