Influences of confining pressure and cyclic deviator stress on liquefaction of clayey sand

A study on the liquefaction behaviour of a reconstituted clayey sand is presented. Clayey sand (CS) sample was made by rivers sand and clay caolinite in a certain composition. This study used instrument of cyclic triaxial test. Some treatments of confining pressure on every sample were 25 kPa, 50 kPa and 100 kPa, respectively. Test results shows that liquefaction would be occurred at 13.20 kPa (CS.A); 31.35 kpa (CS.B); and 65.34 kPa (CS.C) cyclic deviator stresses. Number of cycle required to liquefy the samples would decrease along with increment of confining pressure and cyclic deviator stress. Besides that, pore water pressure would increase due to increment of clay content in each sample. Therefore, more clay content in clayey sand would be more difficult to liquefy sample.
