Modification of the nuclear energy level width (vol 69, pg 900, 2005)

摘要
A possible method is proposed to modulate the nuclear γ-decay constant which is related to the lifetime. When the radioactive 133CS nucleus embedded in a compound is placed between two silver plates and separated by 0.02 cm from each plate, the width of 81 keV excited level turns out to be 6.90 × 10-8 eV at 4.2 K, which is about 4% narrower than the natural line width, 7.27 × 10-8 eV. This implies 5.4% increase of the lifetime. © EDP Sciences.
