A Compact Substrate-Integrated Dual-Polarized Magneto-Electric Dipole Antenna With Endfire Radiation for Millimeter-Wave Applications

摘要
A Ka-band dual-polarized magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna with endfire radiation is presented. The compact 3-D geometry of the antenna is fully integrated into the lateral region of substrates based on the multilayered printed circuit board (PCB) technology. Approaches to guaranteeing promising impedance matching and radiation characteristics of the antenna are discussed. A wide overlapped bandwidth of 33% for the two polarizations and an isolation of larger than 25 dB between the two ports are confirmed experimentally. Satisfying radiation performance, including gain of up to 5.7 dBi with a variation of less than 1.4 dB, symmetrical radiation patterns that are almost identical in the two orthogonal planes, low backward radiation, and stable scanning beams over the operating band, is also achieved. This work provides a new and valuable design scheme for millimeter-wave 3-D substrate-integrated antennas.
