Two altar designs for the chapel of the Metropolitan Seminary of Turin

Two iconographic documents, found within the archival fund of the Turin Metropolitan Seminary's Library, reveal details about the building of the palace historic yard. The work, which was carried out in several phases during the Eighteenth Century, had strong repercussions also on an urban scale. Specifically, the drawings refer to the creation of the new altar in the Chapel, and they are probably the graphic annex to the contract stipulated in 1793 with the Genoese stonemasons hired for the decoration with polychrome marbles, which can still be seen in the altar. The signatures and date shown on one of the two documents reinforce this hypothesis, as well as the structure of the altar itself, which slightly different from what is illustrated there, yet nothing can be ascertained on the second drawing attached to the first. It is perhaps a relief of the pre-existing altar, replaced during the above-mentioned works.
