摘要
PurposeThe correlation between mental disorder (depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and anxiety disorder) and cervical cancer remains unknown. We conducted a nationwide population-based cohort study to evaluate the relationship between mental disorder and cervical cancer in Taiwan.MethodsParticipant's profiles were extracted from NHIRD. From 2000 to 2012, a total of 138,130 participants were included in our cohort. Cox proportional hazards regression model was performed to calculate the hazard ratio with 95% confidence interval for cervical cancer risk between the mental disorder and comparison cohorts (patient without mental disorders). Propensity score matching was applied to minimize the confounding effects. ResultsAfter adjustment for all the covariates, the risk of cervical cancer was 1.76-fold higher in the mental disorder cohort than in the comparison cohort (95% CI = 1.40-2.19). Comparing to patients aged < 30 years, the risk of cervical cancer was 1.60-fold higher in those aged 30 to 50 years (95% CI = 1.21-2.12) and 1.80-fold higher in those aged above 50 years (95% CI = 1.30-2.50). The risk of cervical cancer in blue collar was 1.36-fold higher (95% CI = 1.06-1.69). ConclusionsFindings from our study suggested a possible correlation between mental disorder and cervical cancer diagnosis, and this trend indicates that affective disorders might potentially increase the risk of developing subsequent cervical cancer.
