Is there room for Bioinformatics in Biology Teaching? Lessons from High School Students

Teaching Genetics and Molecular Biology is challenging for students and teachers. The search for new didactic strategies that minimize abstraction and favor active methodologies has proven significant for learning. With this, we seek to evaluate the use of Bioinformatics as a pedagogical strategy in the Teaching of Molecular Genetics context of High School. According to the students' perception, Bioinformatics proved to be an attractive strategy (67%) that enabled the understanding of the addressed content (50%). Approximately 83% of the public surveyed expressed an interest in carrying out more similar activities. Hence, we reflect on the potentialities and challenges of implementing Bioinformatics as a viable didactic resource for High School.
