摘要
Siamese cats were introduced in Britain in the late nineteenth century and by the 1950s were one of the most popular pedigreecats. Their role in modern domestic life was increasingly celebrated inpet-themed memoirs and broadcasts. This article explores the social andemotiona I dimension of their rise - arguing that Siamese were particularlyfeted for their communicative capacities as well as their powerful albeitdisruptive role in domestic life. In this article, we argue that pet animals, and the Siamese in particular, made a significant contribution to everydaydomesticity and the emotional life of the home.
