Investigation of Extended Reality Application for Model-Based Collaboration

摘要
Using extended reality technology (XR; including virtual reality and augmented reality) to visualize 3D models can enhance collaboration in the construction industry. Despite its potential, there has been limited exploration into how XR can be effectively used as a collaboration tool for architecture/construction project. To address this gap, this paper investigates the use of XR technology for different types of BIM-based collaboration. Firstly, the types of collaboration in the construction industry were investigated and defined, including internal, external, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. This paper also provide framework, which covers XR technology attributes such as information, accessibility, and interoperability. Based on the investigation, it is possible to diagnose the current status of XR technology application, and it will contribute to propose a suitable XR system for various conditions of model-based collaboration.
