YOUTH EDUCATION IN RONDÔONIA DURING THE 1980S

Silvio Goncalves de Faria Agrotechnical School was one of the pioneering Vocational Education and Training institutions (VET) in Rondonia, established in 1981 during its time as a Federal Territory. Over nearly three decades, it has played a crucial role in providing education to rural and urban youth from different municipalities in Rondonia. This paper aims to contribute to the reflection on the educational experiences of graduates who were educated at the institution. The main research question addressed in this study was: How do graduates evaluate the quality of education they received? The historical method was employed as the research approach. The findings demonstrated that the school was politically and pedagogically aligned with the socio-economic challenges of the territory where it was situated during that period. In relation to the educational experiences, the graduates expressed positive evaluations, despite encountering numerous difficulties, including severe instances of food insecurity caused by the lack of access to school meals.
