The present study has a clear purpose: to analyze the academic research of Professor Baquero Goyanes on the Spanish novel in the second half of the 19th century, which constituted a substantial chapter within volume V of the General History of Hispanic Literatures (1958), Editorial Barna, and reissued in 1969 in Barcelona's Editorial Vergara. This prestigious History brought together the most prominent researchers of the moment for the creation of its contents. Professor Baquero rigorously analyzed the realist-naturalist novel, with an exemplary scientism approach, a model for researchers and university professors.
