Heart and diabetes: do we need to review our care pathways?

摘要：
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death and disability in people living with type 2 diabetes in France [1]. The Haute Autorite de sante (HAS) provides guidelines for a care pathway, in several stages, which are limited to one type of pathology in a unidirectional way in the speciality concerned. This dissociation illustrates the compartmentalization of the two disciplines of cardiology and diabetology, which is an obstacle to comprehensive and multidisciplinary care. Despite the common patient base and the regular transfers of patients between the two specialties, the care pathways, as defined by the authorities, are fundamentally dissociated.
